Before and After Basement & Backyard Renovation
From Basic to Brilliant: Inspiring Home Makeover
Even the most beautiful homes have room for improvement. Basements and backyards are often underutilized or designed as an afterthought. This incredible backyard and basement renovation is sure to inspire. Both the basement and the home’s surrounding property were blank slates; a grassy lawn and a white-boxed basement. But the potential for greatness was clear from the start. Let’s start underground….
Basement Before
Though unfinished, the basement had a gorgeous entry staircase and was full of egress windows with beautiful brick exterior wells, flooding the space with natural light. The client wanted to make the most of the expansive space and Ventures was able to check every box on their wish list: Kitchen and bar, dining area, home theater, gym, wine cellar, bathroom, and a secret play area for the kids!
Basement After
The finished basement is absolutely stunning. No detail was overlooked. Stone veneer accent walls appear throughout the space. The kitchen features gorgeous black GE cafe appliances with rose gold hardware and a stunning piece of granite used for the counter and stone slab backsplash. Brick flooring and brick ceiling details in the wine cellar, kitchen, and hallway bring an old-world charm that feels incredibly luxurious and authentic, making it hard to imagine this basement was ever finished in drywall. There is ample built-in storage throughout including a hidden closet behind the hall’s built-in bookcase.
Looking for basement lighting inspiration? Look no further. With gorgeous chandeliers in the wine cellar and dining area, pendant lights above the basement bar, modern carriage lights on the stone veneer hallway, and panned ceiling with illuminated crown molding above the home theater, this basement has all the lighting inspiration one could dream of.
While this basement renovation is incredibly sophisticated, it also has magical details to delight the little ones! Notice how the spandrel has the facade of a small cottage? Inside is an adorable play area.
Next Up: Beautiful Backyard Renovation
The Wing Lake exterior is one of our favorite property transformations. The homeowners started with a blank slate and made it into a beautiful, unique, functional outdoor entertaining space.
Backyard Before
This beautiful home was newly constructed and designed to have a raised patio or deck off the back as you can see by the exterior doors that are covered with a wooden rail for safety. But the homeowners went far beyond a simple deck or patio…
Backyard After
There’s so much to say about this beautiful outdoor living space. The aesthetic is bold and beautiful with roaring fires, black and white checkerboard patterned patio pavers, wrote iron inspired gates and railings, and red brick details to match the home’s exterior.
As you enter the backyard, you’re greeted by a beautiful custom fire pit built into the hand-laid patio. The walking paths and perimeters of the patio are laid in a modular pattern with soft grey pavers. The entertainment spaces are laid in a bold black-and-white checkerboard pattern. An L-shaped seating wall surrounds the gas-fueled fire pit.
As you continue the patio curves around the back of the house with a lounge area and steps leading down to the grassy lawn. An oversized gunite spa is sunken into the patio for the ultimate relaxation. Just past the spa is a second lounge area with a custom outdoor fireplace with a mounted all-weather TV.
The pinnacle of this backyard is the incredible outdoor kitchen. The raised patio features a covered outdoor kitchen with a wrap-around bar. The kitchen features black granite counters, built-in refrigeration, storage, and a grill with a hood. The ceiling of the covered porch is tongue and groove with a dormer for natural light, recessed lighting, heat, and ceiling fans to keep the bugs at bay.
And there you have it. One of our favorite projects, inside and out. It’s full of character and class, combines luxury with entertainment, and has something for everyone!
