Picture yourself relaxing in the backyard on a crisp fall day, cold beverage in hand, football game on the TV, fire crackling in the background while burgers sizzle on the grill. This Ann Arbor patio is designed to create just that experience. The homeowners replaced their old wooden deck with a beautiful bi-level patio and attached pine pergola. The pergola shades the raised portion of the patio with a brick kitchen featuring a built-in grill and refrigerator, a black granite bar, and a mounted all-weather TV. Beside the outdoor kitchen are a large dining area and a row of boxwood hedges. Stairs with limestone coping and under-step lights lead you down to a patio extension with a firepit and lounge. The masonry transitions from a modern modular pattern on the main patio to a cobble pattern around the brick firepit with limestone coping. Adirondack chairs surround the firepit, with ample room for a cafe table and chairs as well. A walking path wraps around the house with landscaped garden beds of hydrangea and boxwood as well as ornamental grasses disguising the utility meters and air conditioning unit without hindering access.
